Our buddies at Bailey Rd School

On Wednesday 5th October 10 children from Kids with aView travelled to
visit the Year 8's in Room 13 at Bailey Road School in Mt Wellington.
Room 8 are our blogging buddies.  Even though they are much older than us they enjoy
visiting our blog and leaving us some awesomely written comments.
The Room 3 children weren't even feeling nervous
about finally meeting their blogging buddies they were just very excited!

WHAT AN AWESOME MORNING WE HAD!

WHAT A WONDERFUL WAY TO MAKE AUTHENTIC CONNECTIONS.

The Room 13 buddies were amazing so welcoming, helpful and patient.
We all looked at each others blogs, made some comments and got to know each other.
The interaction were wonderful moments to watch.
We were also introduced to some more new buddies - Room 2 a Year 1 class.
Now we had 3 new buddies each!
At morning teatime all the children shared a yummy morning tea and went
off to play on the playground.
After morning tea the Bailey Road buddies showed us around their
art exhibition - it was artrageous!
There are so many talented children at Bailey Road.

Our first attempt at Voice Thread

Howick Historical Village Trip 

5th July 2011

Yesterday we went to the Historical Village. My favourite part was the old toys. They were made out of string, wood and glass. My favourite toy was a spinning top. By Neeve

Yesterday we went to the Historical Village. My favourite activity was the outside games. There were horses and then we went to the inside games. They had activities and even parlour games like squeak piggy squeak. Then we went to the nursery games and played Jack jumped over the candlestick. By Anya

Yesterday we went to the Historical Village. My favourite part was playing with the old toys and my favourite thing was the marbles and the marbles were made out of glass. Then we went to play outside games. Then we went inside to play passing the ball with our chins. Then we played the rope game. We had to put the rope around our body. By Maia

Yesterday Rooms 3, 5 and 6 went to Howick Historical Village and we saw some toy horses that we could ride on. My favourite part was playing the parlour games. I liked singing Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jumped over the candlestick. The first thing that we did was trying to work out the olden day toys that the children used to play with. By Ashira

Yesterday we went to Howick Historical Village. First we went to the old toys. My favourite one was the Jacob’s ladder and we passed them around so we wouldn’t fight. Then we went to the outside toys. We saw a lot of riding horses and log walkers and those things that you have to put two sticks together and the ring will fly into the air. Then we went to the parlour games. We played the string game then we played squeak piggy squeak. Then we played the chin ball game and the other passing ball game and then I went to have a look around. By Jacey

The first activity that we went to was to the toys. We played with the toys. The names were Jacob’s ladder, acrobats, spinning tops and puppets. They were made of string and wood and glass. My favourite toy was the acrobat! We needed to squeeze the wood and it will turn around. My favourite activity was the nursery rhymes because I liked the games that she taught us. My favourite game at the nursery rhymes was Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jump over the candlestick because it was fun. By Orlando

Here we are in the 'Bee Hive'.

Our lead dancers were Rohan and Sienna.

Can you see the beekeepers - Benny and Orlando?

The beautiful flowers were, Anya, Tiffanny, Mallika, Neeve and Zana.

Our drone and worker bees were Jack, Aum, Kairyn, Krishant, Aryaan, Alvin, Dykie,

Maia, Joshua, Gina, Alex, Jacey, Bradie, and Kevin.

Proboscis Discovery

A bee’s tongue, called a proboscis is long and pointy, so is yours if you stick it out as far as you can. Their tongue is soft like yours too. Bees need long tongues so that they can reach into flowers to where the nectar is.

Their tongue works like a straw. The bee unrolls it's tongue and dips it into a flower. Then sucks up the nectar like you would drink from a straw.

Bees will also use their tongues like a cat to lick their fur to keep themselves clean. They lick and clean each other and their mother the queen. Their tongues are also used like brooms to lick the inside of their hive to keep it clean.

Here we are using straws to experiment what it would be like be a bee using a proboscis. 

We had a competition to see which group could suck up the most water in 2 minutes.

It was a lot of fun!

TravelWise Week Certificate Recipients

Congratulations to Kairyn, Joshua, Neeve, Aryaan, Krishant, Gina, Benny, Sienna, Rohan, Mallika, Orlando and Alvin who received a certificate for participating in TravelWise week. They helped the environment by walking to school. Well done!

Room Ten at Wairakei School in Christchurch

Room 3 were so worried for the people in Christchurch after the earthquake. We were especially worried for all the children. 
Last week we wrote some comments and questions to some very brave Year 1/2 'Super Kids' from Wairakei School in Christchurch.

On Monday we received a great surprise! 
The children replied to our questions.
