Peter and the Pig

You must read this book - it is so funny!
It even comes with a warning -
"This tale will make you laugh out loud"

Here is a book review by Maia and Jacey

When we read "Peter and the Pig" Mrs Laburn was laughing hard out.
She kind of had tears in her eyes and her face was red with laughing.
There was a pet shop owner and Peter the pirate.
Every time when the pet shop owner gets something for Peter, Peter doesn't need it.
One day Peter went to the Pet shop and he said "I don't have a parrot".
He asked the pet shop owner if she had any parrots.
She said, "I don't have any parrots".
She asked Peter if he would like a pig instead of an parrot.
The pet shop owner even gave Peter more things that he didn't need.
You will have to read the book to find out what happened.

"I thought it was really funny because pet shop owner sold Peter a popper scooper!!"
"He looked silly in the cat costume!"

We showed Anna and Mrs Nagels how we use the iPads to learn.
They were very impressed with us!

Australian Quadblogging Buddies

Action - Reuse and Reduce!

By our Quadblogging buddies at
St Lukes School in Melbourne, Australia

During Inquiry Learning Prep S and Prep K learnt about reusing products and recycling to reduce landfill. They discovered a problem at their school - they use too much paper. So they worked through a Problem Solving Strategy to decide what they could do to change the way they use paper at St. Luke's. After much discussion and considering the pros and cons of all ideas, the Preps decided to make a video about how they could stop using too much paper. Together they wrote a script - practised their lines and made props to make their video.
They want all classes to put this video on their blogs to share this very important message.

What will you do today to stop using so much paper?

Carrollton, Kentucky

Where is Carrollton, Kentucky USA?
Mrs England's Kindergarten has posted some information about Carrollton on their blog.
We also found some photos from gambleg42's photostream on Flickr.
It looks like such a pretty place.

Here are some websites Mrs England has recommended we visit to find out more about Carrollton.
Carrollton is right on the point where two rivers meet - the Ohio River and the Kentucky River.

Room 3's Movie - Out and about around our school

Room 3 decided to make a video for our Quadblogging friends.
It is a wonderful tour around our school.
We used the ipods to video each other.

We had to make sure we didn't put our finger over the view finder and
we had to make sure we kept the ipod as still as we could and
we had to make sure when we filmed moving around that we didn't
move the ipod too fast.
We also had to think carefully about what we would say to make it interesting
for others to listen to.

What do you think about our first video made by us?

Testa, Spalle, Ginocchi, Pedi

Our Quad Buddies from Australia made a video too!
Don't they sing brilliantly!

We think quad blogging is great fun
because we are sharing so much learning!

St. Luke's learn Italian at their school, so today their Italian teacher, Signora Senzo, helped Prep S and Prep K sing
'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' in Italian!

Here are the words:

Testa, spalle, ginocchi piedi, ginocchi piedi.
Testa, spalle, ginocchi piedi, ginocchi piedi.
Ho due occhi, un naso, la bocca, e due orecchi.
Testa, spalle, ginocchi piedi, ginocchi piedi.

Testa, spalle, ginocchi piedi, ginocchi piedi.
Testa, spalle, ginocchi piedi, ginocchi piedi.

Ho due occhi, un naso, la bocca, e due orecchi.
Testa, spalle, ginocchi piedi, ginocchi piedi.

Can you work out what the words mean by following the actions of the song?

Maori names for pet stick Insects

Stoke Bishop Primary asked us to come up
with some names for their pet stick insects.
First we watched some Youtube clips about
stick insects so we had some prior knowledge.

We decided to choose Maori because we are New Zealanders
Maori is one of our National languages.
We hope you like it.
Please leave us a comment.
What do you think about our choices?

Waka, Rakau, Parauri, Kakariki, Haka

Let's learn Te Reo Maori - how to pronounce Maori words

Voice Thread for Stoke Bishop Primary Year 1

Within our four schools we have a partnership that means that for a four week cycle, each school’s blog would be the focus for one week out of four. Each school in the Quad will spend some time visiting the blog of the school for that week, leave comments etc. After that week, another one of the four schools would be the focus and this would be repeated for the four week cycle and then repeated.
This will give each blog a boost in visitor numbers and comments.
Our blogging friends are

Stoke Bishop Primary in Bristol, England - Mr Unsworth
Learning Together - Blackburn South School, Melbourne, Australia - Mrs Kennedy
We Love Learning - Blackburn South School, Melbourne, Australia - Mrs Swann
